Overwhelmed and hurting

Do you ever just feel like spending some time by yourself?
I have felt that way quite a bit this past week, because I have been so busy with work, school, setting up our new house, and working out troubles that I am having in my marriage. I am really quite stressed out, and I am distressed and unhappy with the way certain things are going in my life right now. There is a lot of uncertainty with where my friends will be next year, as well as uncertainty with my job. I enjoy parts of it, but I am not sure if I want to spend the next two years working with the people I work with in the work-relationships that I have right now.

Great Expectations

Life has been bearing down on me lately. Everything feels difficult for me right now. Friendships feels strained and unrewarding. I am having relationship issues with Joy that seem simple to resolve from one perspective but overwhelming from another. I feel overwhelmed. I thought things were going well with work, but now everything at work seems dauntingly uncertain.

Successes

I am beginning to realize more and more that in life you really don’t have to do everything right to be a success… or even to “make it in life.” In fact, there are many situations where you will be a success by just doing one thing right… really right… or by having just one strong commitment and keeping it no matter what.

The Logistics of Emergency Management

I have spent many hours thinking about Hurricane Katrina, Disaster Relief, Aid of all kinds, and emergency management in general. After travelling to different coutnries for month-long missionary trips throughout my childhood I came to the opinion that helping people in great need had much less to do with a lack of resources than with a problem of logistics. Now that it has been two weeks since Katrina made landfall I am beginning to transfer this line of thinking to emergency management as well.

What Would You Call This?

This weekend I needed to leave Joy and Gainesville extra early so I could get home in time to get some rest and get to class early on Monday to register, buy books, etc before class actually begins at 8:30. So, when I realized that it was 9:15 I kinda freaked out and started to get everything packed up really quickly.

Texas Instruments?

There is just so much to say about this. It is so country but so nerd all at the same time. I was thinking of getting one, but it is just too much of a gag.
I’d like to buy and program one for a friend, but while that would be fun I don’t know that it would be worth it and then there is also the fear that someone might actually wear it.
Fortunately, I do know a few guys who pride themselves in their belt buckles.

“Effective” Pay Rate

Some of you may recall that I worked at Panera Bread Company before I started working with UPS. Back then I was making $6.50/hour working fewer than 20 hours a week (I really want a job with a consistant schedule that gives me roughly 15-25 hours per week.) Now that I am working at UPS I am making $9.00/hour because I recently received my first raise (+$0.50)

So, I was wondering… which is better? Obviously, UPS seems much better because I am making more money in total; my schedule is much more consistant; and the pay rate is higher. However, I have to drive a lot farther to the UPS HUB, and that takes up a lot of my time each week. So, I did a few calculations.

New Site?

There are plans in the works for a new site of sort to host some of my writing. Nate has been in daily contact with me discussing this new site, which he envisions as something of a collaborative blog. I’ll quickly try to describe my take on what this new site is going to be like and then give my thoughts and feelings on the site. Nate will probably be by sometime in the few days to comment with his vision of what this will be. We’re getting close to a name too, so maybe that will be added in the comments or in a future entry.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

I use Blockbuster.com’s DVD-by-mail service, which gives me two free game or movie rentals at any Blockbuster location every month. This time around I rented FF:CC. I’ve played this before with Wei at one point and Jordan at another. This time I got to play with Joy.

Joy isn’t really into video games, TV or movies all that much, but she’s a sport and she likes to hang out with me so she gives most of the games that I get at least one try — even Halo 2! So, she tried out FF:CC.
