For those of you not keeping track, Joy got her new job back in late September, and up until December I was working at UPS part-time for tuition reimbursement (that never came through) and health insurance benefits (that did come through several times for Joy) among other things. So in the last quarter of 2005 we were suddenly awash in cash that we were not used to having after living on $10K or less a year for all of college.

I have found that you can learn a lot about people and interpersonal relationships by watching or even participating in the relationships of others. This is one of the great reasons that it is good to have friends that are friends with each other. It brings out more about all the people you know.

I’ve been meeting some interesting people this summer, and a good deal of them are professing Christians. Whenever I meet any cool people on the bookfield, Christian or not, I always wish I could stay and talk to them more. I am always really happy when I sell them books too, because it means I’ll get to see them again at the end of the summer!

I run into many sites that judge music, movies, plays… art in general, and I was wondering where the basis of their judgement lies. Also, I got to thinking that it would be pretty convenient if there were some universal measures by which all people judge art.

I’ve studied a bit of astrology in my day, and in that time I’ve also mentioned my interest in it (or knowledge of some of it) to people here and there.
One typical question I’ve run across is the, “So, what are (enter astrological sign here — with plural marker) like?” question. It happens almost every time.

I was talking to an old friend of mine today and she remarked in jest, “pretty is as pretty does.” This immediately struck me. It probably had something to do with the familiarity of its structure, (I’m thinking… Forrest Gump!) but I think it also struck me because it just feels so true. Perhaps it even is true!
I thought some more about this out loud with her (at her suggestion) and I have now decided to blog some of the things I came up with.

Well, Joy has told me that she prefers this new habit of mine (writing for the blog) over my old habits of writing to magazines, newspapers, columnists, and companies, so I guess I’m doing something that makes her happier. Woohoo!
