Paintballing in Orlando

I went paintballing about a month ago. A friend from UPS invited me to go with him one weekend early in October. I couldn’t go, but I told him that I was interested and that I’d definately go with him at some point within the month. It ended up being November so I decided to go the first weekend of the month.

New Tribes Missions

I just returned from visiting New Tribes Missions’ World Headquarters in Sanford, Florida with four other guys from my missions class. It is such a fantastic place that I want to write about the place first and then what the mission agency is all about. Then later this week — Friday or Saturday — I want to take Joy up there to see it and maybe even get some people to tell her all about New Tribes.

Mako’s - Orlando

Joy and I went out on the town this weekend with another couple… to Mako’s - Orlando. We were invited by Karl (a friend of mine from Middle and High School) and Annie, his current girlfriend.

Now, when we were invited to go do this we were told that we’d be going downtown to a club to go dancing. Yea! We’ve been talking about going out together to go dancing again some Saturday night for the last two weeks. This seemed like a perfect opportunity.

We were duped.

Wall of Rain

Today on my way home from Seminary it was just starting to rain, and as I was driving I saw one of these walls of rain that I always love seeing. (The problem with them is that you can’t really see them when you are in them. So, when I saw it I felt like stopping my car in the middle of the road (a trick I learned from Southwestern) and watching the rain for a while.

Church with Karen

Today I went to church with Karen and Tonya (my hosts here in Scottsboro.) That was a pretty interesting experience. The church was a really, really small church (there were 30 people present including the pastor, but not including me.)

I’m not really into old, small churches anymore. To me they smack of an unhealthiness of some type. Almost all healthy things grow until they are mature. This church seems to have ended its growth under the leader that I met, and it seems to be content with that. That leads me to believe that it is experiencing a church health problem.

Paintballing

I went paintballing today. It was awesome! We managed to get seven people to come out and paintball with us — Jenn, Lana, Larry, Jesse, Jason, Nate and I went and we had a blast. It was my first time, so I’ll want to tell some stories, and post my pictures, but it is getting late so I’ll update this later and add all that good stuff in the extended entry.

Cold Stone at Keys

Last night the Keys Complex was offering up free Cold Stone ice cream (chocolate chip cookie dough,) candy, and stress balls. So, Joy, Lana, JennJula, Megan, Lauren, and I went down to the commons to get some. It was great, and it was yet another reason I am glad that Joy decided to live in Keys.

Dreamless nap

I took a nap today, which was rather noteworthy for me, because (A) I don’t take “naps” normally and (B) I didn’t dream at all during this nap. I remember showering, drying off, getting into bed, thinking about some things and then I was thinking about the very same things again, but hearing noises.
It turned out to be nearly an hour and forty-five minutes later. That was so surreal. I didn’t even feel passage into or out of consciousness nor did I feel like I slept at all, except for feeling significantly better, which I didn’t notice until after I got out of bed.

Noam Chomsky

I went out to see Noam Chomsky speak tonight. I wasn’t sure if he was going to discuss Linguistics or Politics, but I presumed that his speech(?) would be more about politics than anything else. Still, I ventured just in case he mentioned some little something about Ling.
Hmmm… tired now. I’ll write more about his speech tomorrow.
