Myth vs Fact

I run into a lot of websites, pamphlets, books, and other publications that have these Myth vs Fact pages. They are pretty interesting, but also usually very onesided. I remain unconvinced some of the time. After all, can’t it just as easily be said “One rather popular belief” VS “Our organization’s belief”?

“You Should Have Done…”

I know a handful of people who often use the phrase, “…you should have done…” I’ve never really been a big fan of this phrase, but I’ve never articulated why I dislike it so much. For most people I talk to it seems to be a semantics issue or something similarly unimportant. I think it is more important than that, and I have a preferred substitute phrase that I think works better.
“…next time you can…”

Right for who…

How do you know that this person is right for you?

You don’t. You never will. There is too much in this world that is outside of your control, and only one thing that you can control — yourself. The only way to really know that someone is “right” for you is to make a decision… a choice. Choose, daily, to be the right person for another person, choose that person as the right person for you.
That’s when you’ll know, because you have decided, and you daily make it so.

Valentine’s Day Reactions

Valentine’s Day is coming!
I’ve been hearing this for a few weeks now. Probably ever since Super Bowl XXXVIII. I’ve witnessed some interesting reactions to this too.

Basically Pleasure Seeking

In the past few months I’ve heard some things that have got me to thinking once again about whether people are basically good or basically evil. I’ve decided that this one really needs to be played out outside of the box.
I think that good and evil is real, but I think that they are judgements on a behavior/incident not an inherent attribute — per sé.

Maturity Is..

I’d like to know a college girl who realizes that maturity is something that she still must try to attain instead of convincing herself that it is something she already is.
I guess this is the way that nearly all people are. Always wanting to be at this place — maturity — without really spending much time arriving there. The arrival is always spoken of in the past tense. It is used in stories about mistakes, or perceived mistakes, embarrassments, accomplishments, triumphs, etc.
I am still in transit. I am in the process of arriving, but I am constantly realizing that I am probably not there just yet… wherever that may be.

The Matrix: Revolutions… First Thoughts

The first day of the release and I’ve already heard a ton of negativity about this movie. I was expecting it though, because there was a great deal of it right after Matrix: Reloaded. People complain about the movie and the go and tell their friends that haven’t seen it that it wasn’t all that great, and occasionally… they post comments on message boards. These are sweeping comments like, “…and ‘true’ Matrix fan is going to be disappointed with the ending.”
Well, I’m a true Matrix fan. I wasn’t disappointed with the ending. (The credits were longer than any non-Matrix film I’ve seen, but that Silver Pictures logo is cool and… who ever gets tired of the WB logo, y’know?)

NASA, Welfare and the Military

I often hear of people decrying the military or NASA. They’re arguements are basically two-fold — “why do we need these things?” and “The goverment money would be better spent on welfare programs to help people!”
