Busy Busy February

I have been very busy these last few weeks, but things are just starting to settle down into something of a groove. I got a call from my college roommate a few days ago, and we hadn’t talked since Christmas time. He asked me how I was doing, what’s going on, the usual…

This time I actually had a lot to say.

I started off by telling about how I lost my cell phone in the move from Orlando to Gainesville. I lost it somewhere in the U-Haul, I know, because I was using it to talk to Joy’s little brother when we were returning the thing. I noticed it was missing as soon as I got home. Point being… I didn’t have his number anymore, so I had to wait until he called me to get it again.

him about how my “franchise thing” was going. That wasn’t much fun to talk about, because it has been put on hold for a year as I could not get financing. So, the franchisor will keep my 10% deposit for up to seven years. I think that I will be able to save up the balance in the next year or maybe two… if things go badly.

I told him that I got a job with Domino’s Pizza as a Manager in Training and that I am an Assistant Manager at this point. In four to six months I will be a Store Manager, and be making enough to get the money I need for my own franchise. Also, I will be getting some good experience for the future… if I want to do a different franchise… or even a Domino’s of my own.

That came as a big shock. I think he said something like, “I don’t call for a month and a half and you change your whole life around!”

In the last two months I have moved from Orlando to Gainesville, I found out that I could not get financing for a franchise I wanted to buy, I changed jobs from UPS to Domino’s, and… well…

Toward what seemed to be the end of the conversation I tell my old roommate that Joy and I are buying a house. “When are you going to start looking?” he asks me. ‘Well, we’ve already looked, made an offer, signed an agreement, put down a deposit, and secured a mortgage. Now we are just waiting for them to move out and for the closing date to come, which will be Friday March 3rd, 2006.’

After a few words of suprise, he says he should call more often.
